With the clubbing scene dead for over a year, reimagining the creative potential for our deserted nightlife spaces seems fitting right now. Corsica Studios, originally a hub of underground music and nightlife, has had time to withdraw and reflect, conceiving a new platform to support, entertain and enrich through art.
So Schemata is born. It’s a plan. A blueprint. A vow to remember the void. The time we had nothing. The time we created something from that nothing.
Vortex, Schemata’s first show, reveals the desolate venue.
We experience the dislocated and uninhabited space of the club, with its ghostly ambience that is both familiar, yet distorted and unsettling.
Curating works from artists specialising in abstract world views and alternate realities, Vortex aims to coalesce the realms of digital art, film, performance and sound to create a memorial to nightlife and inspire optimism to move beyond.
A collection of stickers from visitors to the venue, stuck on our office window.
Synda Sova is a being of the most northern part of the hemisphere. A Hermit who has long survived alone in the icy, barren land, the knotted Forests and frozen waters, using her wit and close kindred and developing relationship with nature. Brutally cast out from her family and community she is healing her wounds by harnessing natural and neon Magick from between the cracks, surviving loss by learning a new way to live and breath that is intrinsic with the land and the Magick she can make there. Breaking Ice is her journey through and into holistic magical queerness, connecting deeper with nature and herself. Breaking Ice, written, created, played, performed, recorded and mixed by Synda Sova https://soundcloud.com/anne-louise-kershaw & https://www.instagram.com/syndasova/ Final mix and master by Sya https://soundcloud.com/syahouse Film by J. Gorecki (Fragile X) https://www.instagram.com/fragile_x/, art direction by Synda Sova. Album to be released by Bricolage, https://www.instagram.com/bricolageg5/

Viral Energy Game is set in a speculative future inside the Metaverse. It explores our dependency and animistic nature towards our screens and how these self-centered technologies evoke connection yet produce loneliness. For the best viewing experience please use Chrome and watch full screen with headphones. Throughout the experience pop ups will appear with hidden messages and scenes. To see the hidden messages and scenes you must click the pop-ups to process through the game. The game requires access to your camera, if you don't allow it certain parts will not work. By Keiken, coding by Obso1337, score and sound design by Khidja. Originally created Present Futures Digital 2021 Keiken are a collaborative practice, co-founded by artists Tanya Cruz, Hana Omori and Isabel Ramos in 2015, who frequently work with multiple collaborators. Based between London and Berlin, they come from mixed diasporic backgrounds (Mexican/Japanese/European/Jewish). Keiken, the Japanese word for experience, create speculative worlds, using moving-image, CGI, gaming software, installation, virtual and augmented reality, programming and performance to merge the physical and digital. Their work simulates new structures and ways of existing, exploring how societal introjection governs the way we feel, think and perceive.

This video essay explores the short history of viruses rendered audible, asking what they can teach us about our condition of generalized virality. Originally commissioned by Unsound Festival in 2020 and based on the text “Listening to COVID-19: audio virology in the era of pandemic” Steve Goodman is an artist/writer/producer/DJ also known as Kode9. He is the founder of record labels Hyperdub and Flatlines, the club night Ø, author of the book Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear (MIT Press 2010) and co-editor of Unsound:Undead (Urbanomic 2019). His sound designs and installations have been exhibited at the Barbican, Tate Modern, Arebyte and many more.
Documention of live performance for Queer Ecologies Microbe Disco virtual event on 15/08/20 Sin Wai Kin, fka Victoria Sin, (b. 1991, Toronto CA) is an artist using speculative fiction within performance, moving image, writing, and print to interrupt normative processes of desire, identification, and objectification. Drawing from close personal encounters of looking and wanting, their work presents heavily constructed fantasy narratives on the often unsettling experience of the physical within the social body.
Synaptic Island gathers online to run and record one of their listening sessions, public events that used to happen bi-monthly at Corsica Studios. Listening sessions revolve around a selected theme. Each participant is invited to bring a track, listen and share thoughts and ideas in relation to the music and the theme. For this virtual occasion, Synaptic Island members will explore the theme “Ghost”. You will hear... AI generated music, loops and degraded samples, uncanny machines, disembodied voices, music and sound that explores cultural nostalgia, haunted technology… all genres of music will be welcome. Synaptic Island is a collective of DJs and creative practitioners based at Corsica Studios. They run DJ workshops and events open to female, non-binary and trans people and host a weekly radio show on Resonance FM every Saturday 3.30-4.30pm.
Binary stasis and phantom horizons in times of decline. Pendulum, diaphragm, the distance between states, rings around an entity. For eye, for voice, for the sea and washing machine parts. Recorded and filmed on the Dungeness beach and in Zero Gradient's warehouse, Middlesbrough. Empowered electronics, kinetic pulse, drifting texture, undulating drone, amber cloud, alternating current, corrosive rain, dots behind the eyes, light becomes sound, rebuilt from the ground up with whatever comes to hand. https://harmergeddon.bandcamp.com/ https://harmergeddon.tv https://harmergeddon.tv https://harmergeddon.tv
"Parallels is a piece that explores the different lives that we currently live physically and digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The work manifests as a 3D model that appears to have glitched and mutated to reflect the uncertainty and instability of our everyday. It also challenges the presence of humanity within digital spaces by distorting what we see as human using the power of 3D softwares.”
Compiled by Good Night Out, the campaign for safer nightlife, in partnership with Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-violence charity, this poster is part of an all-gender access toolkit for any space that provides toilets for visitors. It has been written with nightlife premises such as venues, pubs, bars, and clubs in mind, but can help leisure, arts and cultural spaces too. If you want to make sure your place of business offers bathroom facilities that all customers feel safe and comfortable using, regardless of their gender identity or gender expression, read on.
Good Night Out Campaign is on a mission for safer nightlife. We believe nights out should be about fun and freedom, not fear. We help nightlife spaces and organisations to better understand, respond to, and prevent gender-based violence, through specialist training, policy support and an accreditation programme. Let’s change the party to change the world.
