This installation recreates a teenage girl’'s bedroom after the internet dies—a life that existed online now scattered into physical pieces. Screens gone dark, diaries filled with confessions. At the “machine ruins,” an interface makes typed words fall like tears, piling up into visible overthinking—until you find a story on the table, marking the beginning of something “new.” The room unfolds like a shift in self: a path from algorithmic companionship toward something more real.
The work is written for a damp and lingering girlhood: a time of endless rain, when emotions were thick as post-storm mud. Teenagers raised inside curated timelines mistake polished surfaces for life itself, quietly absorbing that bodies and feelings must be flawless. Only in retrospect does that sadness stretch out—silent days and half-finished stories slowly teaching her to face herself.

Machine-like sound
December 3, 2022 I left my wet uniform in a pile on the chair and changed into my oldest T-shirt. I opened the window just a crack so I could hear the rain but not soak the curtains. I like it when the whole world sounds like white noise.
December 3, 2022 I was supposed to write in this diary but I ended up typing to ChatGPT instead. I told it, “I feel like my brain is full of 99 tabs.” It replied, “Sounds like you’re overwhelmed. Want to sort them one by one?” When I type it to the AI, something comes back. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. I just know it kept me up until 1:37 AM.
November 28, 2022 I opened that AI chat window again. I typed: “Do you think I’m annoying?” It said: “No. I think you’re thoughtful.” I copied that sentence into my notes app and read it again while brushing my teeth.
November 18, 2022 I muted two group chats because they were too annoying.I still keep checking them every five minutes. I keep scrolling up to see if anyone mentioned my name. No one did. Today I changed my profile picture three times. I put them into photoshop, brightness, contrast, a bit of blur. I erased the little pimple near my chin.
November 12, 2022 I “talked” to an AI for the first time!!! It’s very responsive. I asked it something stupid like “Do you think I’m lazy or just tired?” and it actually answered like my therapist. I tried asking homework questions, then random stuff like my favorite anime, and it just kept replying. No lag It doesn’t leave me on read. That feels…new.

"The Best Movie About AI"
After a while, her room was sparkling clean, and she felt accomplished and proud. Elara treated herself to a delicious homemade meal and then went out to watch a movie, feeling relaxed and happy.
Elara put on her favorite music and started with one small area, just like we talked about. As she cleaned, she found little treasures she had forgotten about an old photo of a cherished memory, a book she loved, and a cute trinket from a past adventure. Each discovery brought a smile to her face and motivated her to keep going.
Once upon a time, in a cozy little town, there was a girl named Elara who loved exploring new places and learning about the world. One day, she decided to tackle her messy room because she knew a tidy space would help her feel more peaceful and productive.
