'This work explores transplantation, simulacra, and what is natural for individuals that contend with cultural sensitivities and traumas from being seen as artificial or other. Similar to how celadon became of material interest separate from and including its relationship to jade, bonsai became of spiritual significance separate from and including its relationship to landscape, and digital space exists separately from but also included in the physical-- Asian Diasporas are complex and unique cultural modalities separate from and including their Asian and locally assimilated cultures.'

'Since fall 2019, I have started a project trying to use physical installation and performative lectures to illustrate the “Asian Carp issue” in the United State. These adaptive and fast-growing carp fish were framed as a national issue concerning millions of Americans. As an artist and a foreigner who has living in the state for over a decade, the mixed usage of languages around the so-called Asian Carp is not only concerning, but points to our deeply tangled relationship with our land, ecosystems, and nature. Carving carp is a browser based video that creates an alternative narration to the story of Asian carps. In attempt to deconstruct the language used to weaponized the fish.'

Closing a chapter of work on disembodiment and deimatic adaptation against predation, we willow limbless against the wind, a sapling splitting against any staying aid, no more. The short, text-driven 3D performance whips through exploit, power, and love in coexistence, a fickle latency only realized in the airlessness of void. At the forefront of my obsessions are bioarchitected speculative ecologies, detritivorous nutrient cycling, epigenetic change and immunomodulation.

Originally intended as a multi-surfaced installation, the work has now shifted and transformed to an online presence for the viewer to immerse themselves within and explore. For a long time I’ve been interested in an area called Dungeness, a shingle beach in the south of England, UK. The site is home to an ecological reserve and as its backdrop a vast nuclear power station. I’m drawn to the eerie nature these two create together and has influenced the sound for this piece. I decided to use a combination of ‘predictive’ rhythmic sounds and more organic dysfunctional sounds to embellish the lurking nature of the sonic landscape.

The process of trying to correct my poor eyesight is uncomfortable and visceral. Though going blind is one of my greatest fears, I am already experiencing a type of blindness and I explore what that does to a person's perception and experience.
4:11, 1920 x 1080 px, Color, No sound. Repair the Mother is an animation about healing the historical trauma through collective retelling of history. With highly symbolized characters and frames, the animation shows how the "Mother", the group that's been through trauma, was hurt by the representations of war, famine, homelessness and massacre, and was finally healed by her children (the people, in our era). Through remembering and retelling the history, we are able to take back the lost voices in the traumas, see the history in a new light, and finally, gain the strength to heal the broken souls of the past.
