Realestate Is Your Ticket to Wealth

Artist name Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga

A Gen-Z real estate salesperson pitches the rewards of homeownership either as a first home or a passive income stream. "Real Estate Is Your Ticket to Wealth" is a billboard advertisement in the virtual reality and desktop application "Desplazados" commissioned in 2020 by Christiane Paul and Alfredo Salazar-Caro for the Digital Museum of Digital Art (DiMoDA4.0). "Desplazados" is a wandering neighborhood application set in a 19th century tenement neighborhood, constructed of brick and cobblestone and inhabited by rats and pigeons. As the user explores the environment, they encounter disembodied voices sharing observations and tales regarding urban gentrification and dislocation. In the distance, the old buildings explode as new glass towers rise. A street advertisement invites you to escape into luxury condos, speculative real estate and passive income, while an exhausted construction worker questions reality. The disembodied voices are from interviews I conducted around Delancey Street as the billion dollar development Essex Crossing got under way. I wrote, shot and edited the Gen Z YouTube-style real estate advertisement just before COVID-19 hit the United States. The video reflects the aspirations of speculative real estate and passive income streams touted by a generation raised through an eleven year bull market.

what if we kissed by #dogecoin peak?

Artist name Mark Ramos
Artwork Description:

There was an old American credit card commercial that went something along these lines:

"There are some things that money can't buy:
Two plane tickets: $2,700
One luxury hotel suite: $1050
Chilled champagne: $600
A second chance at love?: Priceless."

In the midst of an nft-minting goldrush, what does "priceless" even still signify in an age of cryptocurrency driven enthusiasm?

These videos show offline footage of a live website that presents a navigable online landscape made out of re-skinned cryptocurrency symbols:

A dogecoin sun rises over a bitcoin mountain range. An XRP Ripple waterfall cascades into an ethereum ocean. Iota clouds float gently over a field of Monero poppies.
Priceless moments (like epic sunrises and sunsets posted online) are re-skinned with crypto-currency symbols to investigate notions of what is still "priceless."

By turning crypto-currency into something else, can we reinvent non-transactional ways to be online?
