QATIPANA Individuation processes on the relationship between Art, Machine and Natural Systems

Artist name Renzo Filinich Orozco
Artwork Description:

The work revolves around the concepts and processes of Becoming and Individuation through a hybrid ecosystem whose architecture is called Qatipana (Quechua word that means flow, sequence, transmission), is an hybrid ecosystem of information flow which, even though not the kind of dispositive systems theory was designed to read, offers some valuable empirical insights to test some key aspects of Simondon’s information processing systems; this research aims to observe a algorithmic cycle performed by the cognitive system of an Artificial Intelligence agent observing a living ecosystem.

Medium: POSTHUMAN Cyber-animism mask

Artist name Wave Pongruengkiat
Artwork Description:

Medium is the prototype of the cyber-animism system through the merge of performing art and fabrication technology to expand the democratic process to post-human beings.

We create the cyber-animism data-generated mask for the mask dance to let the former be ‘the medium’ between nature and humans.

How can we include nature in our decision-making process designed for only humans? Our democratic experiment is to find the way we can include those being in the human decision-making process through art.

'Medium' is the animistic belief of a human whose body was taken over by a ghost, spirit, god, or other entity. This belief is common in Thailand and throughout South East Asian Culture – There is still a number of rituals based on this belief nowadays.

‘Can the Medium be the way we communicate will nature?’

Mask dance is a form of artistic performance in different cultures globally. The performers must interpret their input based on their culture.

asks and generates movement. On the other hand, the mask can possess the performer and turn the performer into the Medium of such being

Qatipana hybrid ecosystem

Artist name Renzo Filinich
Artwork Description:

Qatipana is shown as a form of creative and technological activism, in turn, that the concept of nature must be integrated together with the concepts of Cosmopolitics and Cosmotechnics, as a reconciliation between the universal and the particular; between nature, politics and technique. This natural symbiosis with an artificial one has become a call to refound a possible third-order Cybernetics.

Qatipana negentropic system

Artist name Renzo Filinich
Artwork Description:

Qatipana shows us how to approach a way to get to this idea of Cosmotechnology; through scientific practices, and in particular the socio-political context of that time in the sense that capitalism can be described as an epistēmē, whose operator is information, but also as an anti-epistēmē, because it installs generalized proletarianization. In other words, knowledge is destroyed and diversity is systematically eliminated, and a new theoretical computer science must learn to functionally take into account the need for diversity. On the other hand, contrasting these models of thinking about these production processes, under a rationality or way of thinking through the notion of technodiversity, as a way of challenging the hegemony of a universal calculability that prescribes arrangements between the technical system and the systems social and biological.

Qatipana 3D Meta-object

Artist name Renzo Filinich
Artwork Description:

Morphogenesis in 3D printing of the artificial agent Qatipana. Why should we call the virtual element a material instead of immaterial?.
Material (real or virtual) is no longer an inert, lifeless substance that forces itself to act to create shapes and patterns, rather materials have self-organization, shape, and patterns immanent to them.

Stone story

Artist name Outimaija Hakala
Artwork Description:

In Stone story (plaster installation & sound based on recording of pings and slams by natural stones, played through a modular synthesizer). I'm playing with the question: does a stone have a posthuman body, or mind? Stones are part of the world, but do not live like us. They are not heterotrophic in the direct way we are. Their being in a world is grounded in a more slower rhythm. Stones are pressed during thousands of years, the essence and life of a stone is just different.

Y,Z

Artwork Description:

An airless voice, voiced in air. An AI voice trained on the artists. This piece conveys something about their dyslexic world of language. Here a torus, a form representing the artist, responds to a neural network reciting the arbitrary sounds of the alphabet, which in turn audio-activates the torus, revealing a tension between the two.

The recurrent neural network is trained on sound, not language, and therefore does not understand the meaning or linearity of the chosen alphabet.
