Most people don’t expect strangers to believe in them. Maybe there’s a catch, a trick, or something expected in return. Belief is the most important thing we offer to our Protostars.
The concept of Protostars is simple: find people with a passion project, give them a small amount of money and surround them with a community of creators. Then give them total, uncomplicated belief. Once someone is told their passion is important, that it really matters, they are given the freedom to imagine, explore and create. And once this cohort of Protostars was selected, that’s exactly what they did. They were made up of musical theatre directors, vintage camera builders, film makers, Web 3 builders, art curators, publishers, engineers and metaverse fashion designers from the far reaches of Australia and New Zealand. What we’ve seen in this cohort is just the beginning.
Belief changes everything.

The video observes and reflects two people, both literally and metaphorically through the use of filming into mirrors and only ever seeing the characters and their interactions through the reflections.

'The main edge this organisation has is having young mentors... they relate to the students and meaningfully engage with them. The students laughed a lot, created actionable career plans and felt safe goal planning for the future.' - Teacher

Turning Point is a free, educational, historical strategy game set during the late 70's and 80's in New Zealand. The player takes on the role of the New Zealand government, making decisions which change the course of the nation forever. Manage the economy, pass acts in the Beehive, navigate the halls of power as you struggle to keep the confidence of your party as you guide New Zealand through its most turbulent period. You can watch the trailer here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0zAUh1UgmE In 1981, the player is given a difficult decision: Allow the Springbok tour to take place and risk unrest, or break an election promise and stop it form coming, knowing well that this will cause a swell of discontent from your ministers.
Ailing! In Turning Point the player must work to keep the economy afloat, balancing GDP, inflation, bureaucracy, regulation and many more factors as the nation struggles with an oil crisis and an international recession.

My poems have been published in local journals and blogs, and two overseas anthologies, and I sometimes write a poetry blog.

I'm Ella, I'm 21 and I'm a student from Perth. Four years ago I was the survivor of a traumatic sexual assault that lead me to spend the following three years within inpatient psychiatric care. This experience with mental illness lead me to live a multitude of frustrating gaps in recovery and crisis care. My fight to be well fueled a strong passion for urgent change. This motivated the creation of FORTH- utilising my story to hopefully help others find their 'light at the end of the tunnel'.
FORTH - 'Chapter One', focusses on engaging readers in the basics of recovery & mental health through foundational practises, skills and inspiration. The theme of 'New Beginnings' hopes to provide momentum to actively move forward to wellness. Tell us about your project. My vision was to create a versatile & realistic alternative to a wellbeing magazine that specifically provided clinical learning and paired activities to progress every individual’s mental health. The quarterly magazine - FORTH, aims to deliver solutions to many gaps that I battled throughout my own recovery journey, including; accessibility, unsustainable recovery, lack of real practical skills & the lack of affordability to engage in multidisciplinary expertise.
Elle-Lou, a qualified naturopath, is one of our featured contributors. She joins the versatile collection of practitioners that allow FORTH to be extensively multidisciplinary - this is in hope of giving inspiration for all aspects of mental health.
Co-founders of 20talk, Lockie & Leighton, feature as one the 'FORTH Figures' - inspirational humans who have transformed their struggle into something powerful. In the first edition, reader's can be inspired by their profound work and story.

I’m a founder with a deep connection to the problem. I’ve been involved with Surf Life Saving in New Zealand and Australia for over 13 years. I’m a National champion board paddler and volunteer Life Saver who’s been able to rescue people’s lives. Hello, I’m Ivan 👋 I’m a freelance 3D artist and designer specialising in digital fashion and meta-art. Graduating with a Bachelor of Design from Edith Cowan University, I use my skills to build art spaces, (like the BlackBird Protostar digital exhibition!) that elevate the metaverse as a platform for young artists, liberated from the ethnocentric practices of institutionalised art spaces. I see NFTs and digital design as the future of art, free from the restrictions of monetary thresholds and physical boundaries. I want to make luxury, self-expression, and art making more accessible, as we shift from an era of technology as a product to technology as a lifestyle.
SEASON THREE PEACE & LOVE MODEL TWO, “I wanted this collection to rely a lot more on intricate details. I really aimed to challenge myself with this series, maybe expanding on what my design visual identity may look like."
SEASON THREE PEACE & LOVE MODEL FOUR, forms from Da Vinci’s battle tank illustrations have been appropriated to construct shapes of alluring opulence, reinforcing the femme fetale concept of the series. Collaborating with LA-based designer Yuval Ozery, and Russian photographer Arslan Mominkulov, Ivan Medrano's series ‘SEASON THREE: PEACE & LOVE’ explores the contrast between medieval combat armour and images of demurity and romance. The garments feature motifs of hearts, pearls, and femininity, all encased in cold metal. The SEASON THREE collection was displayed in a virtual exhibition, allowing an international range of participants to gather and view the work. Digitalised in content and form, the series was a token to the possibilities of the metaverse as a catalyst for accessibility and innovation in the art world. There’s little we can control in life, however, the manner in which we carry ourselves in action and appearance remains a cornerstone of authority we find comfort and security in. In this way, fashion acts as a form of armouring, shielding a wearer through plates of identity. To adorn yourself is to take control of how you are perceived, accepted, or rejected by the world.

Loredana visits primary schools to share her self-publishing journey, read from her poetry picture book, “What Are You Made Of?” (“WAYMO”) and inspire students to pursue medicine and/or poetry, her two biggest passions. They discuss what makes up a poem, write group poetry, and the children later produce their own poems about themselves and the things that matter most to them. These workshops have been met with positive feedback from teachers, librarians, pupils, and parents.

"Daunted Magazine is a semi-annual print publication that features emerging artists, designers, and writers. The magazine acts as a platform to facilitate publication discourse from creative practitioners earlier in their careers. The magazine is sold and distributed at cost, it is not-for-profit as this will encourage wider distribution and enable more accessible de-materialised local art. For the first edition of DAUNTED, Collaborators were asked to respond to ‘Public Transport’ as a prompt. Public Transport was selected as it is a widely accessible and common lived experience but naturally allows for very different interactions. For Example, these interactions can be social, as time, space or place, whatever approach was taken was dependent on the contributors’ experience. DAUNTED has been distributed at local Perth stores that reciprocate the value our magazine places on community art activation, Contributors to the magazine were given 5 copies each to distribute to their own local networks. DAUNTED Magazine differs from other art magazines, as the key objective for the publication is a deliberate and considered approach to distribution, the hope is that by encouraging natural distribution streams without reliance on profitability; the magazines may land within circles that can facilitate work or commissions for the involved artists. By having a mass physical product, artists can display a level of professionalism that may be difficult to access at this early stage of their careers." "I make photos and graphic solutions; I like when I get to turn those photos and graphics into things people can hold and/or enjoy. I have a background in creative media; I have worked in Service Design, Graphic Design, Printing, Screen Production, and Photography; I don't plan to stop trying new things. DAUNTED wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of my partner and friends. I think this is where I put my awards and achievements? If you care about that stuff you can find it on my website. If you like the look of DAUNTED say Hi on my Instagram, I'm probably working on something new" SOCIALS @GOOFY_JPEGS @DAUNTEDMAGAZINE JESSEPRETORIUS.WORK PEOPLES TAGS FEATURING: DR.
