Everyone has the potential to become a digital outlier!
As establish relationship with others, we are forced to be labelled to a multiplied community, although we may not be entirely suitable. Trapped in the external voices, compulsive imitation serves as a pathological status to keep the balance. Finally, when we fail to fake harmony, we become outliers with underlying rebellion. The storytelling structures the cult gathering scene used as a metaphor for the inescapable community and the dissociation. Gatherings and dissociations suggest subconscious memory scenes, abstractly imply the spiritual thoughts.
When I started working on my part, I summarised and self-analysed the outlier moments I experienced, and I realised that I often choose to be an outlier when I was asked to do the same as what everyone else did . But in many cases, even if I choose to become an outlier, I will eventually return to the path I don't want to take, due to some objective factors, which often makes me feel helpless and confused. So I used the learned helplessness I experienced to form my storytelling. In my video, I try to convey this experience to the audience through a story about looking for the moon.
Unconscious Cognition is a reflection of the fear of the unknown. I often do not remember my dreams. That I consider a problem, as I have recently had experiences recalling my apprehension of the unknown. I am scared of being in dark spaces, places that make me feel unsafe, states in which I am not myself, I am not present, not conscious. Not knowing what my purpose there is, what I am doing or there to do and how to get out. The dark spaces I have created in my project reflect on that fear of the unknown, unconscious. The perception, memory, learning, thought, and language that we experience and perceive without being aware of it. It allows the viewer to experience an unconscious cognition where one can feel, do and think but not see.
My story is about that there seems to be an invisible rule among adults that you are not allowed to show your Vulnerable emotions. Many people want to say no out loud but turn out to be good. Gradually these types of people will feel no sense of belonging, tired and lifeless, not even knowing when this invisible rule will end. The outlier on this premise is actually fighting with their own heart, the outside world is just an elaboration of the subconscious.
