"There's Still Life: Exploring the Digitalization of Everyday Objects and their Meanings" showcases an interactive digital collection. Objects received from worldwide contributions are uploaded and digitally born, becoming memorabilia of diverse transmedia culture. Objects take on new forms, questioning materiality, aura and value. Inspired by the cabinet of curiosity, this project aims to discover the extent to which the birthing of digital objects impacts shared histories and the sense of self amidst the passing of time. Additionally, the project will explore the role of virtual installations in enabling digital community building amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
A thin, gold bracelet given to me by my mother, 13 years ago. My mother gave it to me. My mother and I, and my grandmother in India, wear our bracelet, daily. It represents the bond and closeness I have with my mom.
"A gift from my partner for our first year anniversary."
St. Stephen icon - Eastern Orthodox religious icon. When I moved to Canada, I brought this icon with me from my home country. The icon represents love, courage, and protection from evil for our entire family.
Painting by my Gramma of my first home: a garden, a brick path, front door, and a Maple tree trunk.I asked my parents if I could have this painting, which was stored in a cupboard, for my new house. It is significant to me because it was painted by my sweet Gramma, who brewed the best chamomile tea.
This dark-coloured four-legged and obscurely stretched object is a sculpture of a Jackal I made last year. I associate this object with my upbringing and the carefree summers I spent with my great-grandmother in her village in Bulgaria called Chakali. The literal translation of the name of the Village in English means Jackal, which inspired me to create this object. I based the physical object on an existing location; however, it means so much more to me.
