Statement:

explores time as a fluid phenomenon. A virtual Stonehenge is used as a departure point to different zones in time. Over the Stonehenge is a frozen sun, representing the idea that time in virtual space is immobile without human presence. The artworks in the exhibition cite different kinds and perceptions of time. A deep, warm, yet eerie sound piece fades in as the audience enters the space and creates an existential feeling in the listener. The piece narrates the passage of a person’s life, contributing an element of linear, human time in the exhibition. A death poem floats in the sky, combining pastoral elegy with the contemporary fear of replacement by AI. A sense of stillness can be found in the poem and a feeling of spiritual attachment to the movement of the solar system, and thereby time. A retro TV tucked behind one of the stones plays a distorted livestream of the visitors to the exhibition, connecting the physical exhibition space back to the virtual space, as screentime.

The physical sundial within the exhibition space reflects a projected sunlight animation, representing the passage of time: which speeds up in response to the presence of people within the space. Time passes faster as people approach the piece. With no people present, time stands still. The sundial is made from untreated steel, which will start to rust with time, conversely showing how time affects tangible objects.

will they deign to

tirelessly

for

anything else but us?

heavy as

january snow,

i sit patiently

and still,

smiling.
