Statement:
Based on the artist's interest in people-place interactions weaving the intangible value of society, ”You are The Urban Fabric” focuses on the Genius loci of Maymyo aka Pyin Oo Lwin. Colonial architecture , teashops, thrift culture, market and various ethnic groups in town has been weaving the city image all along.The downtown area is the busiest and vibrant urban fabric in town but its image has been diminished by three forces: physical forces, intangible forces and personal forces.
This collective collage of Pyi Oo Lwin in a faded environment require human action to be visible. If the audience doesn’t make any movement, the collective collage disappear and if he do, the faded environment will become visible. The concept is you are the urban fabric and if you take actions, the essence of the city will not be diminished.

Artist Bio
Ei Thinzar Naing @ Nile graduated from Master Degree Architecture Program from MTU (Mandalay Technological University) in 2020. She has been working as a private architect and visual artist for six years. Nile has participated in 8 group exhibitions and 2 solo exhibitions as of today. Her main interest is in people-place interactions (Genius - Loci) weaving the intangible value of society.

Based on the original concept for the Augmented Reality work by the artist, the visitor is required to move around in the space to see the collective collage. The space also host a virtual gallery where you can experience the artist's collages individually.

Purcell Tower (City Image)
Purcell tower is the landmark as well as bold and authentic symbol with historical value. The tower is imageability( linguistic transforming into mental image) of Maymyo just like Eiffel tower of Paris. Lately, the significance of Purcell Tower has been diminished by modern high-rise buildings around it.

Fading Fragments
The highlighted visual identity of the downtown area is beautiful colonial facades which convey architectural value of town. Due to rapid developments and trending of town, colonial facades has been demolished and replaced with modern materials instead of proper conservation.
Urban Living Room
Downtown area is the most vibrant and rich in cultural value, sentimental value and architectural value of town. Urban living room is the heart for special events of various ethnic groups weaving the urban image featuring horse-carts which were the main transportation system of the town.
Colonial Facades
We can understand about “Society” and “Culture” by examining its buildings and physical built environment. The city has diverse religions and interesting culture. Multiple shophouses with beautiful Colonial façades along the main road has been shaping the identity and tourist attraction of Maymyo.
Teashop
Teashops stand as social meeting points before cell phones, before social media such as facebook, instagram etc. Teashop culture is one of the intangible identities of Maymyo along with sentimental value through generations.
Thrift Culture
Thrift shops used to open in old colonial houses around Market area and monthly festivals. The coexistence of tangible colonial building and intangible culture is strong to create sentimental value in town. Thrift culture in Maymyo has been modified and deformed according to online thrift shopping trend and some tangible colonial buildings which were demolished recently.
