Description Text: Containing 6 major subjects; a girl, a balloon on fire, two Birds, a rat and a fish, this work speaks of the consequences arising from neglecting our duties in preserving the world by our hazardous activities which are shown as the burning balloon thereby leaving nothing for the coming generations symbolized by the girl child. The falling creatures are consequences of this neglect and how it affects our ecosystem and the bird on her head signifies the hope that hovers no matter what.

Description: This art work is satirical and it speaks to the heightened lack of accountability of those in leadership position in Nigeria. This was created to showcase the several emotions during the END SARZ Protest. It was a heated and angry couple of weeks, punctuated by
humor when a young female protester made the statement “Buhari has been a bad boy” during a press interview of protesters. I loved the boldness and the humorous undertone in the statement, as did many other angry Nigerians.
This was my contribution to immortalizing the protest and a shred of reflected hope portrayed humorously but portrayed still, that maybe accountability and better governance would be something that would come in our time, and it would look something like a community, irrespective of age, dressing, gender, we would be able to make demands as citizens, and not spoken to as “children of our leaders” in condescension and disrespect as we would be seen to have the added advantage of being a strong community, whole with a voice.

My submission "DONT SHOOT (END SARS)" was inspired by the END SARS Protests taking place in the Nation
of Nigeria and the world as a whole.
These protests were birthed after the youth of the nation decided they had had enough of the rampant unchecked
killings, molestations and harassment by the SARS unit (Special Anti Robbery Squad).
My work was made to capture the raw expressions and cries of the protesting masses both online and offline.

I used glitter, paint, newspaper and the parts of the naira note to create these different placards for protesters. Using the naira note on one of the signs was to
show the devaluation of our naira and to highlight the thing that Makes one corrupt, that leads one to evil, the thing can makes our world go around and upside down. Each placard is a work of art by its self, but a masterpiece when they are all together , just like Nigerians , we are stronger together. The placards were donated and used to protest against police brutality and help Change the
narrative as that is what we are trying to do, peacefully, in the midst of the ongoing violence and brutality of the police. In addition to the placards I made painted t
shirts which I refer to as material canvases. The t shirts brought life and art to the Abuja protests and fulfilled their purpose. The aim of making both placards and t
shirts was so people could have something colorful during this very black and white time. Nigerian youths are very creative in different ways , there has been a lot of art, music, poetry, design and photography since the beginning of the protests. As there are physical protests there are online protests, which spread awareness through a spectrum of creative outlets and crafty hashtags. Creativity
is connecting people , creativity helps people express and heal , creativity is a new form of communication, creativity is our voice, we hope you’re listening.

Self acceptance! Often when a woman is raped or abused and assaulted sexually, the most commonly asked question is “what was she wearing” as if what she wears is meant to justify why she was raped and defiled. As if what she wears is a tag that says “Rape me”. I don’t know why we refuse to call it what it is. Rape is a crime against a person just like murder is and there’s no victim blaming in murder. Now Jeff Bezos whose net worth is all over the internet, yes he worked for it and is showing it off. If you plan to steal from him that’s on you. Same thing goes to women. Most of our girls grow up with a lot of insecurities about their bodies and sexuality, some literally work really hard to get their dream bodies and you don’t want them to show it off simply because you can’t keep it in your pants? 

Well this painting is to encourage young girls and women to accept and love their bodies and it is never your fault if an evil predator decides to be out of control. Yes protect yourselves but remember you are a Survivor!
