Mixed media, painting, video, photo April 2020 “an object of sense that in itself involves the short-circuiting of sorts in our cognitive and conceptual capacities” Within me is a gesture — an innate “action” that my body has been producing since I was a child. In an attempt to understand my own expressionism, I begin to repetitively perform the gesture over the course of a month-long self-isolation, allowing myself to meditate for hours over the creation process. This gesture is performed on various canvases in an attempt to understand how the gesture shifts in space and texture. This gesture is performed at various times of the day, in different parts of the house, within different mental spaces. This gesture is performed until I am no longer in this space, I am outside myself, my being is ephemeral. mirror / gesture is a single study of a larger body of work based around an abstract gesture. In this piece, I perform the gesture while observing myself over long periods of time. IG: @arafa.builds

Fine Art Prints Series of 5 59,8x84cm Heavy Mental" is about being ready to accept the possibility that there is a limitless range of awarenesses for which we now have no words, that awareness can expand beyond the range of your ego, your self, your familiar identity, beyond everything you have learned, beyond your notions of space and time, beyond the differences which usually separate people from each other and from the world around them, you may be have a chance to get lucky. And if possible more, this also! As a public striptease takes place, a review of each persona is made possible, and seen as desirable for our own safety. “Digital humanism alienated at its best and becomes our own enemy to protect ourselves. Isolation and loneliness for the benefit of a whole society, concerned about its health and life, takes place and becomes the new healthy lifestyle.”

Audiovisual installation Additional Credits: Spoken word poetry written and performed by Njideka Visuals by Ayotheartist Spoken word recorded at boNGoToroNGo studio, Vienna, Austria Sound design by Milon Rahman Njideka and Ayotheartist are collaborating for an audiovisual installation which has never before appeared in this form. The original audio piece "The Receiver” was first presented in the context of the project Bodies of Knowledge - Multiplying Marginalised Subjectivities of Utopia through Art and Storytelling in 2015. The audio played in a Vienna subway station, in a telephone booth, through a telephone receiver. This and the act of the listener receiving a message from a far away place/time inspired the title.
Photography & Digital Art Prints in Luster Photo Paper (Inkjet) Size: 50cm x 70,85cm Description Text: Date of creation: 2018-2019 Price: 250€ *Artworks can be reprinted in different sizes up to 70,85 x 50 cm in Photo Lustre Paper. Other types of paper or printing techniques apply an extra fee. Crow People is a digital art project that portrays a series of characters tangled in electric wires. Depicting the Japanese ‘salarymen’ as architype workers and using the electric poles that symbolize a system that unfolds its tentacles throughout the nation, a metaphor of an alienated society is created. The characters are entangled, writhed, suffocated, exhausted, and resigned; with almost inexpressive faces, with vertigo and fear of breaking free of a web which they know that if it gives way, it will let them fall into the void. From this scenery, the project invites reflection on the true meanings of concepts such as freedom, will, control, self-realization, and alienation, expropriates them of their commonly accepted definitions, and acts a blank sheet to be redefined by spectators.

Painting Acrylic on canvas 5ft x 5ft 2019 Price: 4000.00 USD Kayan mata tries to depict the abundance and sweetness of African women. The abundance of water and the fruitfulness that comes with it here is likened unto a black African woman. Water is Life and fruits healthy for human consumption with amazing tastes in their different types. Materials/technique: I try to fuse in a bit of realism, abstract and some urban feel with multi colors to connect the past present and the future. on this piece I used a durable canvas yard stretched and primed with a special mix and gridded the model picture on it, added all the features I needed and then applied Acrylic paints directly on it with a flat and smooth surface. To finish I used fixative, varnish and direct sunlight to dry and preserve it.
Painting Acrylic on canvas 3 x 3 ft. 2019 Price: 2000.00 USD When we know more we become more, because we can only go as far as our visions. Trying to imagine what a great man/leader by the name Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello saw with his own level of intelligence and understanding in the past and how we choose to see things now in this new age and how we perceive the new technology. Imagine if we had a society with a strong educational system, good leadership, affordable food supplies, advanced technology and uninterrupted power supply. Painting Acrylic on canvas 5ft x 5ft 2019 Price: 3000.00 USD An expression of mixed civilizations (Egyptian and Nok civilization), the power of Africa, the natural wealth on our land and the minds of men untapped. Just because I am black I naturally know that I am a wealthy head no matter what. Photography / Collage October 2019 Price: $15,000 (not sold as individual photos) When my sister passed away in 2018, I began thinking about grief and the digital age is changing the ways we grieve. I found comfort in her Facebook page and began to realise how social media plays a role in eroding the physical and geographic boundaries that are so often tied to the mourning process (funeral rites, photo albums, graveyards, physical community mourning). The rise of social media has led to an almost democratisation of historical record keeping, that is to say, history is no longer written by the privileged. People are now able to document their lives and essentially immortalise themselves on the internet. How then does someone's eternal online place allow us to confront and make peace with their physical absence? All the collage in ABSENTIA are created with pictures, text, and from my late sister’s Facebook page. ABSENTIA highlights both her physical absence and digital presence. https://www.kylemalanda.com

Live sound art performance Words and sounds by Justice Thélot CRIMES / Silence" tackles topics of colonial injuries and the liminal space between personal and social histories through sound. In it, my voice is modulated and transformed by the machine and randomizing synths to the point where sentences become fragments of unintelligible sounds. The voice unmoored from words, slowly, becomes a wave of transients and beats. The language used is French, the language of Haiti's oppressors and colonizers, a language shoved down our throats, that we can only regurgitate, that we can only speak with a bloody tongue. By deconstructing its words into sounds, "CRIMES / Silence" reverses the master-slave hierarchy as we veer it into a re-telling of my people's story and ultimately into sonic meaninglessness. "CRIMES / Silence" is an account of unacknowledged crimes against a people's humanity, a re-telling of oral histories told by our parents, a language lost through the tongues of colonizers and thieves.
Abuja Art Week is 5 days of curated exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings and music events at various locations across the city of Abuja, Nigeria. It was founded in 2019, with the goal of presenting the nation’s capital in a new way – as an emerging art and cultural destination in Nigeria. Abuja Art Week Digital 2020 seized the opportunities stemming from the dematerialization of live events to bring to Nigeria international artists, galleries, panelists, and networking opportunities. This year, Abuja Art Week partnered with stakeholders in the art and cultural sector in Abuja and due to our online version – nationwide and internationally – from contemporary art galleries, independent curators, artist-run spaces, international cultural organizations, to live performances and music. Abuja Art Week Digital 2020 was comprised of 3 segments: Art Exhibitions, a Music Festival and a Conference, all held on different virtual platforms and broadcasted/published online. At Abuja Art Week Digital 2020 attendees enjoyed art exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings, performances, and music, from Abuja and beyond, from the comfort of their phones, tablets or computers.
Space Sketches is concerned with media, speed and consumption. It utilizes maquettes, overlay and depth as tools for depicting daily perceptual shifts between technological, natural and psychological frequencies. An impoverished material language of miniatures, repurposed cartons, dust and looping sequences, within a shifting referential scenography creates a cross referencing pattern connecting production, duration, desire and consumption. This all combines in the abstract record of perceived temporality to form a necessary landscape: one that can be seen equally as a form of deterioration and construction. Within the current climate this ground has a new, alien urgency and speaks to the ebbs and flows of experience, considering how familiar structures can be shifted into states of wait and standstill. The Space Sketches are a series of stereoscopic vitrine animations shot from above on a multi- layered glass set, capturing a staggered bird’s eye view of overlaid objects, cut-out image sequences, stop-motion and time-lapse animation. The set is shot with a two-camera rig recording an image sequence for each eye, which is then composited together for 360 video or oculus Virtual Reality viewing. The stereoscopy allows the viewer to experience the composited layers of animation as dimensional sequences on multiple planes, interacting with each other through light, transparency and shadow. The piece applies old and new technologies to question our historical and contemporary engagement with media and to consider how technological forms affect our cultural and physical evolution.
Davidoff Limited Art Edition 2016 commissioned single channel video with sound (10min.) Davidoff Art Initiative, Switzerland "from many sides" highlights intuitive connections to the Caribbean island space; to its rich hues, strong contrasts, darkness and light. Portraying these sites of memory, blending stories and myths of a complex and hybrid past, the layered sequences allow the figures, trees and water to transform, merging with the surrounding land. A staged sequence of a contemporary River Mother (or Mermaid) evokes profound connections across the region by referring to the presence of this shared mythical figure embedded within the region’s cultural space. The elemental, cyclical ebb and flow of Caribbean waters sifts through layers of inherited histories, painting the physicality of time through light, colours, textures and sounds from nature. This ephemeral audio-visual blend offers an immersive experience in the liquid and fantasy space of the screen.
Antonio Roberts is interested in how images and videos posted online can be used to preserve history. The digital space in which we record and share our experiences can be thought of as the museum of our time, where people come together to remember and to tell the stories that reflect the world we live in. In his new series of video artworks called "Abundant Antiques" the artist presents a set of modern day artefacts, rendered as 3D models in stone. Taking on the appearance of a typical museum object, these relics of the future playfully consider our prospective heritage as it is being forged. Here, the preservation of things that are scarce and unique are replaced by those that are mass-produced and commonplace. Commissioned by The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
Video Art 0:58 minutes Visually Similar is a video work that examines how images and videos posted online can be used to preserve history, but can also be remixed to create new narratives. In sharing our work online we make a permanent record of a point in time, which can then be used out of context.
