orijitzen: I originally created this image of a Narkasur effigy (which is ritually burned by Goans every Diwali) for the cover of the Peacock Quarterly - Goa's leading journal of art and literature. Unfortunately, The Peacock is published by the Government of Goa, which means the CM's office gets to vet the contents. The learned authorities in that office were quick to see that my Narkasur was actually a pointed reference to their own good selves. Hence, this work never made it to the cover. But thanks to the intervention of the persuasive Vivek Menezes, it did appear full page on the inside.
The new issue is out now, and those in Goa should definitely get themselves a copy. It is bursting at the seams with a rich array of art, poetry and writing from Goa, and it is my absolute privilege to not only have my work featured, but also appear as the subject of an article by Aniruddha Sen Gupta!
