Night on the street is a virtual environment created from childhood memories I had as a resident of Vila Farrapos, a peripheral neighborhood of Porto Alegre. In it, I seek to recreate/transmit scenes from VF's summer nights in images that were produced using the pixel art technique, which for me has a nostalgic character, since during my childhood and adolescence I had the habit of drawing in Paint(software Windows system design).
My name is Felipe Veeck, I'm a visual artist, and since I was a child I tend to draw the things I see, and also the things I'd like to see.
In front of us we have a football with slipper goalkeepers. I was never good at football, but I chose to bring this memory, because it was a very frequent scene on hot nights in Vila Farrapos.
It could also be volleyball, tag, hide and seek. What mattered was not the type of play, but the freedom of being able to play in the street at night without feeling afraid or cold. The heat inside the houses practically forced people to find something to do in the streets: the children played, and the adults sat in front of their houses, with beach chairs and drinking beer, in the expectation of being touched by some remnant of wind.
Here we have a group of 5 stray cats. In my neighborhood, many cats live, which circulate between the houses, fight on the roofs, and multiply over the years. In my oldest memories of the neighborhood, they were already present, and that caused me multiple feelings, because it was always nice to have this closeness with the cats, but at the same time, it is very bad to see the neglect they suffer, the hunger, and the lack of neutering, which means that today there are perhaps more cats than people living on this block.
And finally, there is a bus on line 703, which travels between Vila Farrapos and the center of Porto Alegre. I wanted to bring an image of this bus because when I was a child it was very rare for me to leave the village. It was like a small closed world, and I didn't even think much about what might happen outside of that place. so the bus was a kind of portal that took us to new places, and that also brought long-awaited visits, like when I went to the bus stop with my mother to wait anxiously for the arrival of my aunts with my cousins and cousins who I saw little.
