Six Feet Under by Billie Eilish edited by Toni Anguiano.
The first glitched image in the "Mother's Suffering" series is Sandro Botticelli's "The Annunciation". This image is meant to focus on the event of the angel, Gabriel, announcing to a frightened young Mary that she will be experiencing an immaculate conception to bring forth God's child during a time in a country where young unwed mothers could be stoned to death. Mary showed bravery, willingness to make sacrifice, and determination to bring a child into the world while unmarried and facing threat.
This final image in the "Mother's Sacrifice" series is a glitched version of Sandro Botticelli's "Lamentation of Christ". This last image, glitched to represent Mary's pain and grief as she holds her son's body in her arms, is meant to highlight the final act of love Mary gives to her child: her embrace. After the immaculate conception and raising him to be a man, Mary stood in the crowd and witnessed the agonizing death of her son. Her ultimate sacrifice. She put her own feelings aside, so he could save humanity. For the pain, the fear, the helplessness she must have felt in those final moments and the grief of her loss... For this, why are women seen as lesser than men because of the bible? How did that shape our society's views on what womnn's roles should be? Why must young girls be taught to blindly obey their fathers and husbands? Why are we only seen as useful in society when we bare children? And discarded and shamed when we cannot or do not want them? Why can't men and women be equal to one another? Why can't Mary be a God?
The second glitched image in the "Mother's Sacrifice" series is a glitched version of Rafael's "Madonna with Child" and is meant to focus on Mary as mother, protector, and teacher, which are the roles she took on as she raised her son. The mother of love and mercy; the eventual Queen of Heaven, raising her miracle to become God through the uncertainty and fear she must have faced. The glitch symbolizes the trials and tribulations of motherhood that happens when raising a child. She gave all of herself to bring him up into manhood, so he could save humanity. Should she not be a Goddess for her sacrifice?
A 3D scan of Michaelangelo's "Pieta" that currently sits in the Vatican in Italy that I edited to resemble a "glitched" statue. This piece represents mother and child being separated but their bond never truly being broken.
