Textile artists

Artist name Zhixin He
Artwork Description:

This project explores how the memories of the deceased people can be preserved through textile art, and how the bonds between human communities can be established and strengthened through fabrics. In this project, I will redefine the possibility and functionality of textiles, and bestow textiles the value of continuing memory through the design of a new method of weaving fabric into behavioral performance.

In this project, the trajectory of different textile weaving can be generated through behavior to achieve continuous memory.

Materials:
Second-hand clothes. Sustainable textile design

Bio:
Zhixin He studied textile design at Chelsea College, London School of Art. Her works have participated in many art events and exhibitions at China and abroad. Her works are characterized by rich colors and distinctive personalities, mainly engaged in the innovation of weaving techniques and the research of artistic concepts.

Glacier records: what we all stand to lose

Artist name Ziqi Cheng
Artwork Description:

Ziqi Cheng is a textile design student in Chelsea College of Arts. Love crafts, love knitting. Passionate about finding inspiration in life.

This project was inspired by glacier movement and polar landscape. The main idea of ‘Glacier Record’ is to record the ever-changing polar landscape in abstract structures.

The endless ice flow covers the mountains and deep valleys, and the blue and white glaciers stand firmly on the sea level. This is our impression of the polar regions. While the grandeur of the ice is evident, so too is its vulnerability. Increasing carbon emissions in recent years have led to many glaciers melting.
Therefore, I want to use fabrics and installations to record the beauty of the polar regions. I want to make the audience interact with the installation to feel the power and fragility of the glacier.

This 3D print installation was inspired by the structure of ice crystals. It consists of many small parts. I want to show that although the glacier looks large and hard, it is unstable and easily destroyed.
It will change its shape if you touch it. If you shake it, the parts will collide with each other and make the sound of ice breaking.

Narrative and Historical Stitches

Artist name Shitong Zhao
Artwork Description:

Narrative and Historical Stitches honours the ancient Dunhuang culture in China, while also focusing on disposable culture within contemporary fashion. This collection offers a way to help people relax and de-stress in their fast-paced lives through the use of simple handmade craft techniques that increase consumer awareness of the value of their clothes.

My undergraduate background is in fashion design, and after completing four years of fashion studies, I chose textile design. It is the responsibility of designers to reduce waste and pollution, and textile design is fundamental to solving such problems. More importantly, it's time to consider the sustainability of textile and fashion and improve lives through constant innovation and effective design. Giving back to the planet. In the meantime, I am rethinking traditional culture in a contemporary context, seeking to increase its exposure and perpetuate awareness of it.

This project focuses on the disposable culture of the fashion industry and the attempt to honour the culture of Dunhuang in China. Upcycling and reusing unwanted clothes and cutoffs from the clothing industry through the use of repetitive and simple handmade crafts techniques to increase consumer awareness of the value of the objects.
Simultaneously simple and accessible crafts offer a way to help people relax and de-stress in their fast-paced lives. With regard to patterns, this project explores the study of patterns found in murals and algal wells in Dunhuang culture, rethinking them in a contemporary context. Combining these motifs with garments enhances the opportunity for greater exposure to Dunhuang culture and perpetuates the awareness of traditional culture.

Looks fantastic video

Artist name Yingxi Fu
Artwork Description:

Looks Fantastic focuses on consumer culture and is based on my own compulsive shopping experience. My final collection of large-scale exquisite candy wrappers filled with tangled waste yarn aims to encourage people to reflect on their shopping behaviors through a humorous look at consumerist society.

Growing up in the south of China, a community of ethnic minorities, Yingxi Fu has been exposed to the vivid textiles, emboideries, and colours of different cultures. These have provided her with a range of inspirations for her creation. The 2-year working experience in the fashion industry prompts her to think about a more sustainable design process and become an activist to protest consumerism. She wants to research more meaningful durable design.

Game console house

Artist name Dongxin Zhao
Artwork Description:

Dongxin Zhao is a textile and fashion designer, currently studying the MA textile design course at Chelsea College of arts, in the past few years, she has studied different technical and theoretical aspects of textile design in China and the UK. The main areas of study are tie-dyeing, batik and weaving. Adept at combining textile design with emotional communication.

The current design was primarily used to help children with autism, and there has been little previous research into toys as sensory therapy tools. This study therefore aims to fill this gap in an effort to make some suggestions for theoretical and practical perspectives in this field.
The research project was divided into three parts, each for three different children with autism. Through prolonged contact and a lot of communication, we learnt about the preferences of each of the three children. Based on their preferences, we developed three different design options.

During this research, I have come into contact with many children with autism and families with autistic members. Their families and friends have been searching for the key to unlock their hearts and minds, which is a long and difficult process. As a designer, our service should not be limited to most ordinary people, but those who need help and care. This is my first attempt at making soothing toys and I know there are many areas where I am still lacking and I will work more on this in the future. For these families and children, this involvement will make a difference to their lives and I will work even harder to make that small difference. I hope that in the future, art therapy will be the best way to help them
