Light World

Artist name Ziling Yan
Artwork Description:

'Light World' calls on people to pay attention to light pollution and emotional health. In terms of materials, this project uses fully degradable materials to reduce resource waste and pollution. In concept, the thickness and transmittance of the final product can be determined by the user, so that the effect of the product can be adapted to the needs of different people.

Ziling Yan is a Chinese textile designer. Because of her concern for the environment and ecology, she focused her projects on biodegradable design. She came up with the work by studying colors, shapes and materials. She expressed her design philosophy while calling attention to the environment and health.

3D Printed Flexible Handbag

Artist name Qianqian (Alina) Han
Artwork Description:

VIRTUAL ENTITY (3D PRINTED FASHION) mainly attempts to apply the principle of zero waste to 3D printing technology. Ensure the sustainable application of 3D technology in the fashion industry. Specifically, how to reduce the waste formed during and after production, and explore the use of 3D printing technology to replace the traditional production system to reduce the waste generated by the manufacturer. And how to establish a sound recycling system to ensure that pre-comsumer waste can be effectively recycled, so that these waste materials will not be landfill or burned in the atmosphere.
Textile and 3D Printed Fashion Designer, Alina Han’s undergraduate major is Costume Design, and she is completing an MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts. As a designer, my goal is to maintain a strong brand image, sustainability and ethics while enhancing the core brand value of eviromental protection. Alina is eager to promote 3D printing on the borders of fashion, explore the potential of 3D printing in sustainable fashion. By using 3D printing technology to allow customers to order and personalize their own 3D printed products, avoid waste caused by overproduction, provide 3D printed digital files, which can be downloaded, and then customers can print their own products on a 3D printer.

Ephemeral Eternity

Artist name Yuxuan Lin
Artwork Description:

Ephemeral Eternity aims to simulate the soothing experience of natural light projected into an interior space, using images from Chinese perforated window structures and natural plant patterns that also incorporate biodegradable UV-sensitive materials. As sunlight passes through, the textile changes colour, creating a deeper relationship with the viewer as they engage with the fleeting romance of nature and time.

In terms of sustainability, I designed a series of modular structures with biodegradable PLA and alginate material, allowing the damaged parts to be replaced with low-tech and low-cost, while users can also change product’s appearance according to their own preferences.

Yuxuan Lin, a textile designer who is obsessed with material exploration, is about to graduate from MA textile design at Chelsea College of Art. She focuses on the research and practice of different new materials and technologies that can be introduced to textiles in the field of sustainability and is also interested in integrating emotional design and narrative expression to textile design.

Future Nostalgia

Artist name Xihan Freja Zhang
Artwork Description:

I’m inspired by movies Blade runner and Ghost in the shell. In Future Nostalgia I intend to design and explore how the future for modified human could be. By creating a new character in this future concept I decided to design how the modified human skin is going to look like and how the system operates underneath it. I combined knitting and beading in this project to represent the “future skin” texture.
