Statement:

My work often focuses on environmentalist themes and concepts, specifically relating to waste and overproduction. As a digital media artist myself, I take pride in the fact that I probably pollute less by using technology as my primary means of work. However, upon doing more research for a presentation on the significance of ancient religious symbology in the modern day when looking at power use, I was forced to a new conclusion. Despite my own best efforts to recycle and produce less waste, I had found that my near constant use of technology still led to its own problems.

This exhibition hopes to engage viewers by getting them to come to the same realization that I have come to myself, that power use is its own environmental issue. I want to be able to bring this topic to the forefront of the environmental conversation as it seems to be a sorely overlooked point in favor of alternative arguments. While I may not have a presence online and I do not have the reach of other activist artists, I want to engage with who I have at my disposal and provide enough insight to the point that at least one person will change their habits or understand their impact. We live in the digital age and by using these digital tools every day, by plugging into the wall or a charger, we take even more away from our planet, often without even realizing it. The costs of these actions must be brought to bear, else we will continue towards the path of self obliteration.
