《Dangers of Comfort》
For “Generation Bored Stiff” - I’ve extended my 2019 pieces “Dangers of Comfort” into an immersive art piece. In the Dangers of Comfort diptych, the audience sees two veiny figures resting in fetal position in a womb-like surrounding. This piece explores the literal danger of blissful ignorance or constant state of comfort. While in conjunction with the exhibition’s concept, the perils of imminent boredom.
This is the first time I have presented my work in a virtual metaphysical medium. I have collaborated with animator/digital artist Mark Maxwell for making my painted figures come to life, with the assistance of my sibling and emerging illustrator/animator, Jun Chen. As I'd like the space to be a fully immersive experience for the audience, it would’ve been incomplete without a soundtrack. For the accompanying sound piece, I commissioned my long term collaborator, experimental electronic music duo Torn Relics to create a bespoke soundscape. It has come full circle, since “Dangers of Comfort” was also their “Abolish the Dogma” album cover (released on Leyla Records, Amsterdam).
